Description
My father stopped the ringing of the bells when he arrived as minister. He always felt it was "arrogant" of people or churches to disturb the peace of those nearby who did not ask that the bells ring out....

Lenore this came from the heart i love your respect in not showing it as a postcard effect it remains its regal self in honour of a Great man it is the simplicity which attracts and the title allows the imagination to make it real really touching piece Lenore out of your top pocket!

The quieting of the bells -- hey, I always wondered why I didn't remember them! A small child would be impressed by them, but I only remember hearing them once, perhaps on Easter when Dad might've made an exception. How typical of him that he considered the feelings of others "outside" the church as just as important, if not more so, than those of his congregation. For the same reason, he never even told his Navajo and Hopi friends that he was a minister back home. He deplored the missionaries that worked to demolish the traditional beliefs and ways of the tribes. This photograph and your treatment of it whisper with his subtle, humble message.
