Description
1950's - Willoughby on the Burro is converted from movie film taken by Willoughby in the 1950's, in this case on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Will wore this hat for decades until it finally blew off in the Wyoming winds and was lost forever! He loved and respected the Hopi and Navajo people and wrote the book about the Hopi called, Smoke Upon the Winds, as an advocate for the traditional ways. This body of work is copyrighted and cannot be used without permission. This image was transferred from movie film to VHS and then transferred to digital film by one of his daughters, Lenore Senior. There will be a short break from this series, but it will return.

What joy and laughter this brought, to see our dignified father catiwampus aboard a tiny burro! Poor burro! Dad loved everything about Hopi life including all his adventures with the village equines, who carried him safely up and down treacherous mesas past rattlesnakes, gorges, and through the scorching desert heat. What an amazing and beautiful interpretation -- love it! fav
